Mother’s Day has always brought everyone together to celebrate two very special women: my mother and my grandmother. It was our ritual to dine at a local, french bistro on decadent eggs benedict with copious amounts of mimosas. We all knew the couch and sweat pants were awaiting at home!
Now, I look back as a mother and realize that Mother’s Day is so much more than brunch and bouquets of flowers. It’s about leadership. It’s about reflecting on the role models our moms were to us and how they empowered us to become the women we are today. I see it often with my own mother and my children. Not a visit goes by where she doesn’t envelope their tiny faces in her hands and remind them how beautiful they are and that they can, indeed, be anything they want to be in life. It’s my mother’s soft encouragement and contagious laugh that pushed me to try new things, sometimes fail, and then pick myself up again. If I told her I wanted to start a babysitting business; her response was always simple, “Do it!” When I told her I wanted to start my own social media business; her response was consistent, “Well, why not...you obviously know what you’re doing.”
This year I wanted to gift my mother something that sparkled just like her personality. A radiant gift that mimicked her infectious laugh. And this year, I have a gift for my dear readers, too.
