It's my birthday week! ...and 6 things that no longer scare me about getting old.

Birthdays are always a time for reflection aren’t they? This year, no milestone, just another trip around the sun. It’s been anything but boring though. I can assure you of that. Eminent growth, many rewarding wins and only a few tough moments. Nothing to complain about, right? Exactly!

What I did learn is that I am officially at one with the aging process <for now!> and there truisms that no longer scare me. You see, life really does get better with each decade so I thought I would share:

  1. It’s okay to have fine lines, even wrinkles. It’s equally okay to be a BOTOX advocate. I am not hiding my age and never have. Yes, I get help!

  2. It’s possible to like fitness classes again. Not all boutique gyms are created equal. I truly love my SALT community and going there kicks off my day in the best way possible.

  3. Not getting invited to every.single.party is really a blessing. As I get older, I really weigh if I am going to get something out of it and is that time better spent than with my family or my tribe? I’d take an intimate lunch or dinner over any event.

  4. My husband still thinks I am hot. He has not lost interest and I don’t think he will. That’s really the only opinion I care about. Truly.

  5. Your business colleagues do not value your opinion less…they value it more! I have more experience or “street cred” as they say. I’m not a dinosaur but I am also not fresh out of school. This is a good spot to be in!

  6. I won’t be able to keep up with my kids. FALSE! I am in better shape than I was in my 20’s. I feel strong and I’ve got a heck of a lot more stamina. Thanks to some mandatory diet changes and those SPIN classes, I care less about what the scale says and more about how I feel. And I feel good!

We don’t have any hoopla planned for Thursday. Just a nice family dinner. Hopefully the weather gods will shine down with some gorgeous weather so that we can eat alfresco. That would be the perfect gift this year. Cheers!
