Beauty 411: Micro-needling.

Micro-needling. I tell people I've had it done recently and their facial expressions morph into one of fear. It's pretty accurate because that's how I felt, too. Two thoughts entered my brain: needles + face = no bueno.

My opinion changed three weeks ago. Now I sing from the roof tops about the benefits of this service and why everyone and their mother should be booking appointments, stat. Let me clarify, you should be booking your micro-needling services @ Reset Med Spa with Kelsey because she is the most personable, most educated technician I've ever met.

Let's start with the basics shall we? What is it? Well, by definition:

Micro-needling: Skin needling, also called microneedling therapy, collagen induction therapy (CIT), and percutaneous collagen induction (PCI), is a minimally invasive skin-rejuvenation procedure that involves the use of a device that contains fine needles. The needles are used to puncture the skin to create a controlled skin injury.

It's been a social media frenzy since it first entered the market. Some referred to it as the "vampire facial" and you probably saw media darling, Kim Kardashian share her experience at one time, too. Let's be honest, everyone sees everything that Kim does but that's a story for a different day.

Going into it, I definitely experienced anxiety. "You're going to stick a needle to my face?" I can assure you though, it's more controlled than that. Kelsey walked me through the procedure one step at a time so that I was fully informed. The first step began with a numbing cream that sat on my face for about 20 minutes. Post-numbing, she explained how she would be using the lowest setting possible and that it might feel like that of microderm; almost like a tickle. She proceeded with a few test spots to test my pain thresholds and we were off to the races.

I have to tell you that the entire procedure took about 15 minutes which makes it a great lunch time treat. And...let it be known that my face was not bloody. At all. Sure, we started with a lower frequency which we will build over time but truly...I didn't feel a thing. It was akin to microdermabrasion but with numbing cream...not an ounce of pain in sight. Post-treatment, she gave me after care instructions, swiped off the numbing cream and applied a light BB cream to my face. You can put on makeup immediately only it will apply like a dream! Oh...and no working out for 24 hours!

The next day: my skin was tight and glow-y. My makeup slid on with ease. Dead skin...sloughed off. I looked rejuvenated and dare I say that all my fine lines - plumped up and slightly more filled in. The true test was my forehead where I have a deep crease between my eyes. I was hooked!

I plan to continue the service about every two weeks as we pump up the volume...pun intended. Follow along on my journey. Photo facial review is next on the docket. To learn about my new skincare regime, click here
