Quarantine Survival Tips For Kids: Part II
We are in the middle of week four at home. So much to say. How are you all feeling? If I am being honest, this week feels the hardest for me but it’s not over quite yet. Home schooling has gotten a bit more structured but I wouldn’t say it has been smooth sailing. I hate to be Debbie Downer on here but truthfully, it’s extraordinarily difficult for two working parents. My 3rd grader is pretty independent but my 2nd grader…not so much! Looks like we are back to the crafting board…and wine. #sorrynotsorry
I shared my first survival post here. Since then I purchased more after receiving so many queries that I wanted to share a Part II. Keeping busy during quarantine can be difficult, especially during these unprecedented times. Our kiddos are taking the bulk of the impact having to change up their daily routines entirely while being confined in one spot. Arts and crafts have been calling our name to keep us entertained and to break away from the daily stressors.
The great thing about these crafts is that they are budget-friendly and take up a good chunk of time to get done, so staying occupied is less of a problem for the little ones. Most of these projects are customizable so each little creation is unique and individual to the artist. If you’re looking for some awesome art projects, I’ve linked a few of our favorites below for you to explore!
Above all else, maybe you are handling the lion’s share of responsibility and if you are, I feel you. We are teachers, entrepreneurs, moms, wives, sisters, line chefs, housekeepers, clean-up crew and more. It’s overwhelming and exhausting. And while I haven’t led by the greatest example on most days, what I can tell you is that it’s okay to take a “mom moment.” If you need 45 minutes by yourself to just be away from everyone - DO IT! If you need to work out - DO IT! If you need to phone a friend - DO IT! If you need to put on makeup - DO IT! There is no right or wrong for all of this; no playbook and for most of us, we are working our tails off to continue our businesses and thrive. Just know you are not alone and everything you are feeling is warranted and justified. You do you and be sure to get rest because you know tomorrow necessitates a fully charged battery.
Hang in there, momma!
I typically draft and publish this post before the close of the year with a long, laundry list of things I learned about myself and others. It’s quirky. It’s sarcastic. It’s authentic. And, it’s a nice summary of self growth and truisms about aging gracefully. (not just the physical kind)
And if you’re new here, you can read my 2021 learnings here. It’s an annual thing!
