Launching a micro athleisure collection that is body positive, welcome Eve.ry.bod.y!
First let me say, not all businesses need a blueprint or a business plan. Sometimes you just have to take a good idea and dive in. Second, let me say that this capsule is small but the message is bigger than life. It’s important. It needs reinforcement. I need your support. It means something very special to me and the most important pillar of all…this capsule is intended to give back to the community. I can’t do that without your help though.
Meet my new baby…Eve.ry.bod.y.
I could picture it in my head as I sat talking to my husband on our couch. It took me 24 hours to reach out to the right people that come from a place of YES. And yes is exactly what they said. Next came a Pinterest board and a lot of phone calls.
I wanted to create a micro athleisure collection that would hone in on two important messages. Think of it as a Body Positivi-tee collection.
“All bodies are good bodies.” and “There is no weight limit on beauty.”
The collection is built on intention. As I navigated and rebranded my content in 2020 to serve my social media community on autoimmune diseases, IBS/IBD/SIBO/Crohns and more, I found strength and self acceptance in a way that I have never experienced on social media previously. Not in ten years of posting pretty pictures!
Women were messaging me and telling me their struggles in finding a good functional health doc, they were sharing recipes with me and asking questions. I even received pictures of bloated bellies and it was all in the name of support. That took a while to accept. Being vulnerable and sharing the parts of your body that you struggle to accept, jelly rolls and all, was a hard pivot for me. After decades of body dysmorphia, trigger eating and then not eating; I finally found a voice that meant something despite my dwindling followers on IG.
I found a inspiring, loyal, loving tribe of women and men who served as my virtual Covid support group. It was pure magic. I stopped hating posting pictures of my bloated stomach and started having fun with it. Goofy reels, lip syncing, silly dances, bloat-friendly wardrobe staples and more…it was my new routine and one that served as the catalyst in finding joy in my personal brand once more.
I have many stories to tell. Things that I filed back to the very depths of my brain and silenced because they are beyond cringeworthy. Things I wouldn’t even share with my daughters because of their young and impressionable minds.
BUT…I knew I could do something that would indeed make them proud. And it’s this line, these messages that they need to hear at this very single moment as they examine themselves in the mirror and ask me, “Mommy, am I fat?”
I’m not done yet. The capsule launches on 3/1/21 which is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. Furthermore, 3/8/21 is International Women’s Day. March is Women’s History Month. Next month is the story of us. It’s the story of amplifying our gender no matter the age, shape, size or color of your skin. It’s about celebrating our contribution to society, our ideas, businesses and our role in making a cultural shift towards equality.
If you know me and you tell me that you are starting a business, you best believe I will be your personal hype girl! That’s just how I roll!
How are we giving back?
First, it’s important to acknowledge our amazing artists and graphic production company, The Vinyl Studio. Laura, the founder, is an incredible human and was the first person to say “yes” to my idea.
Second, is the Renfrew Foundation. This incredible eating disorder and mental health clinic was the second team to say “yes” to my idea and it happened in minutes. Essentially a portion of all sales will go directly to the Foundation to support individuals who are under insured and cannot continue their treatments, which is essential and a life long commitment. Treatment is healing or the first step towards it.
In their words:
Here’s how it started (first drafts below) and behold…we are LIVE and ready for purchase come 3/1/21!
If you’re still with me - thank you from the bottom of my heart. This has been an evening project and this weekend we are shooting the tees with my girlies followed by a massive care package assembly line. We are shipping goodies off to some of the women that have shown up for me from day one.
I am thrilled to share it with you. I want your feedback. I want you guys to spread the word, PLEASE because our kiddos need this. Heck, I need this! And the Renfrew Foundation needs us.
This is a limited quantity, small batch that I truly hope to sell out so we can make more and expand the line. And yes, I still have my agency. It’s alive and well and my full, full, full-time job. Eve.ry.bod.y is about making a difference beyond the office and it all starts with you. xo
It’s time to come out of hibernation. While January has been cold and gray, I’ve uncovered an amazing, suburban exhibition that is worth leaving the house for…and it’s only here through the end of March 2024. You must get tickets to the Downton Abbey Exhibition located at Old Orchard Mall in Skokie. It’s open weekly from Wednesday-Sunday.
